<strong>Treating normal map in gimp</strong>

In this tutorial I´ll explain how to let your normal maps with a little bit of depth. The process is done in Gimp but you could easily adapt it for photoshop.
First you have to bake your normal map in  blender or your favorite 3D application, once you do that the rest is simple. So let´s start.

<p style="margin-bottom:0;">Olá galera, faz um bom tempo que não posto nada por aqui, bem eu estou ausente devido a vários motivos mas assim que possível quero voltar a trabalhar em video tutoriais e os colocarei aqui.</p>

<p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-indent:35.4pt;"><span lang="EN-US">At some time ago people are talking about the Blender Game Engine and it´s frighneting how people have passion or hate it. I would like to really make it clear, the real state of BGE in the game market now a days, so, this is my vision.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-indent:35.4pt;"><span lang="EN-US"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-indent:35.4pt;"><span lang="EN-US">- So Vitor, BGE is it good or bad???</span></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="margin-left:18pt;"><span lang="EN-US"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-indent:35.4pt;"><span lang="EN-US">The answer is pretty straight foward; It depends of the case you will use it.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-indent:35.4pt;"><span lang="EN-US">BGE is really versatile and powerful, obviously that if you compare it with Unreal engine 3 or Cryengine 2 or any other<span> </span>“AAA game engine” you will get disappointed, so tell me. Do you really need an AAA engine ??? If you are a buisness man of some major game studio you may not just need it, but you can afford it!. But if your project won´t have an multimillionare budget why don´t stop dreaming and keep your feets on the ground? What I see in this market, mainly in the rookies is that they really believe that the engine does the game, when in fact are people, worst, people make the engine. What I mean is that none of the engine does magic, not even the AAA ones. If your game is a version of the renomated “WAR cube tank split-screen for twoplayers” your game wil be the same on unreal engine, cryengine, Torque, Dark basic, Blitz3D, Ogre3D or BGE!! So be realist about what are your reall needs and your true capacity.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-indent:35.4pt;"><span lang="EN-US"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-indent:35.4pt;"><span lang="EN-US">-Ok Vitor, I want some engine for my simple game, but I want some with quality, BGE will fullfil this need?</span></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-indent:35.4pt;"><span lang="EN-US"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-indent:35.4pt;"><span lang="EN-US">What can I told you is that for me and lots of other people it can fullfil . BGE<span> </span>has an fast learning curve, very powerful, versatile and it´s evolving daily. Today BGE got suport for materials written in GLSL build-in configurated, with normal maps suports written directly for GLSL. Real-time reflection with videotexture module, Phyisics simulation using Bullet engine, Dynamic shadows, Space Screen Shaders (it was implemeted some effects like Montion Blur, SSAO, Glow, Cromatic Aberration, Light Scatering) full suport for GLSL vertex and pixel shader and openGL 2.1. So, BGE is a nice engine for those who have notion of their limitations and problems, some I can show: The physics integration with bullet is satisfactory for most of the cases but it´s not perfect, mainly the marks when you use advanced calculations such as softbody and uses of lots of rigidbodys still is not as it should. I miss the ragdoll systen in real time, wich some times is necessary. Something important to talk about the<span> </span>problems on BGE is that the updates of the engine is faster than engines AAA. Every 4 or 6 months new releases are done, and even in the meantime you can use the SVN version for testing new things as soon as possible.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-indent:35.4pt;"><span lang="EN-US">So, if you search for an indie engine with this new-gen support and a good learning curve BGE is a nice option and even been free it can compete equally with others popular indie engines. If you never tried BGE do some tests and see for yourself, if you already use it&#8230; </span>Keep blendering !</p>

<p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-indent:35.4pt;">De uns tempos para cá muito tem se comentado sobre a Blender Game Engine e me assusta de certa forma ver pessoas adotando posições extremas de paixão ou ódio em relação a ela. Falo isso para esclarecer qual atualmente é o real posicionamento da BGE no mercado de Game <span lang="EN-US">Engines</span> sob a minha visão.</p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-indent:35.4pt;">- E então Vitor? A BGE é boa ou ruim?</p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-indent:35.4pt;">A resposta é óbvia; Depende em o que você deseja utilizar ela!</p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-indent:35.4pt;">A BGE é muito versátil e poderosa, mas é claro, se você está comparando-a com uma Unreal Engine 3 ou Cryengine 2 ou qualquer outra Engine “para jogos AAA” você irá se decepcionar, mas me diga, você realmente precisa de uma engine AAA ? Se você for o dono de uma grande produtora internacional com filiais em diversos países me parece óbvio que você não somente precisa como também tem condições financeiras para isso. Mas se o seu projeto não irá incluir nenhuma infra-estrutura milionária então por que não parar de sonhar e firmar os pés no chão? O que eu vejo muito nesse ramo, principalmente em relação aos novatos é que eles acreditam que é a Engine que faz o game , quando na verdade são as pessoas que fazem o game, e pior, são as pessoas que criam as engines. O que eu quero dizer com isso é que Engine nenhuma faz mágica, nem mesmo as AAA. Se o seu game é uma versão do célebre ”WAR Cube Tank split-screen for Two Players” o seu jogo será o mesmo tanto na Unreal Engine, Cryengine, Torque, Dark Basic PRO (PROblemático), Blitz3D, OGRE3D, Irrlith&#8230;.. ou BGE! Então seja realista com quais são as suas reais necessidades e quais são as suas reais capacidades.<span> </span><span> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-indent:35.4pt;">- Está bem Vitor, eu realmente quero uma Engine para criar um game simples, mas eu quero uma engine de qualidade, a BGE vai me atender bem?</p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-indent:35.4pt;">O que eu posso dizer é que para mim e para muitas pessoas ela vem atentendo sim. A BGE é uma engine de curva de aprendizagem rápida, muito poderosa, versátil e em constante e ininterrupto desenvolvimento. Hoje a BGE tem suporte para materiais escritos em GLSL configuráveis por build-in com suporte a normal maps ou escritos diretamente em GLSL. Reflexão em tempo real com o módulo videotexture, simulações de física utilizando a engine Bullet, Sombras dinâmicas, Suporte a Space Screen Shaders customizados ( Já foram implementados alguns excelentes efeitos como Motion Blur, SSAO, Glow, Aberração Cromática, Light Scatering ) suporte completo a linguagem GLSL para vertex e pixel shader e OpenGL 2.1 . Enfim, a BGE é uma ótima engine para quem tem noção de suas limitações e de seus problemas, alguns que eu posso citar são: A integração da Física do bullet é satisfatória para a maioria dos casos mas não é perfeita, principalmente o desempenho com o uso de calculos avançados como Softbody e <span> </span>uso de muitos Rigdbodys ainda deixa a desejar. A falta de um sistema de Ragdoll em tempo real também pode incomodar. Mas o que é importante citar sobre os problemas da BGE é que as atualizações da Engine são muito mais freqüentes do que das engines AAA. A cada 4 a 6 meses são lançados releases oficiais mas durante esse tempo você pode ir utilizando as versões em desenvolvimento ( Chamados SVN ) para ir testando as novas funcionalidades e correções assim que eles são feitos.</p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span> </span>Se você procura uma engine indie com suporte as tecnologias da geração atual e uma boa curva de aprendizagem a BGE é uma excelente opção e mesmo sem adicionar o fato de ser totalmente grátis ela concorre sim, atualmente, em pé de igualdade com outras engines indie mais populares. Se você nunca utilizou a BGE faça alguns testes e veja por si próprio se já usa&#8230; Keep Blending !</p>

Olá a todos, Estou aqui mais uma vez para indicar o tutorial de um amigo, Vitor Balbio, Vitor é um artista que muitos já conhece na cena open source, ele construiu alguns dos mais interessantes demos feitos na blender engine ( Ruinas). Bom agora Babio está lançando um video tutorial de como criar o efeito de gramas na BGE (semelhante ao do ruinas).
